STEM Kitchen: Honeycomb Reaction

Learn about the science of honeycomb – what makes all those bubbles!?

Honeycomb Recipe

Requires

  • Baking Tray
  • Greaseproof Paper/ Butter
  • Saucepan
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Stove
  • 100g Sugar
  • 2.5 Tablespoon Syrup
  • 1 Teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda

Method

1 Use butter to grease your baking tray or line with greaseproof paper.

2 Mix sugar and syrup in a pan then place on a low heat but don’t stir until it starts to melt.

3 Once fully melted turn up to a medium heat until it reaches a golden/amber colour and stir occasionally.

4 Turn off the heat and add the bicarbonate of soda and stir quickly until it has some volume.

5 Gently pour onto the tray and leave to set
