The Girls in STEM Club

The Girls in STEM Club is a new online space for young women to find all kinds of support, advice and inspiration around STEM education and careers. The club is exclusively for:

  • Girls ages 14+
  • Female Newcastle University Students studying a STEM degree
  • Female Newcastle University Staff and Alumni

By being part of the club, members will have access to monthly Q&A sessions with inspirational women working in STEM, monthly online workshops and eventually in person events on campus too. Girls will be able to ask for guidance on anything from coursework, applying to university and careers.

To join the club, please click here to complete the registration form. All users are approved before they are able to access the forum. Please use your school, university or work email address when signing up.

If you have any questions or would like to find out more, please contact clare.fearon2@ncl.ac.uk.

FAQs

To ensure safety of our young members, all personal information will be hidden from other members, including email addresses, date of birth and school name. Private messages are not possible within the forum and all members require approval before joining. There are also moderators who will monitor all discussions and remove anything found to be inappropriate.

Workshops will be virtual so they are easily accessible and can be watched back at a later date. The topics will vary each month and some may appeal more to particular age groups than others. Topics will include, writing your personal statement, interview tips, STEM pathways and more. We will take suggestions from members on what they would like to have workshops on.

Our research suggests that students may feel more comfortable asking questions and seeking advice without teachers and parents watching over them so at the moment we aren’t inviting teachers and parents to join. However, if your students or children have signed up, please feel free to sign up to our newsletter to be kept up to date about what is happening in The Girls in STEM Club. This will be emailed every half term.
